Roots Soweto Tour Itinerary
09h00 – Pickup by accredited tour guide.
Drive pass the Chris Hani Baragwanath area, this former military hospital is the largest in the Southern hemisphere.
09h30 – Arrive at the Twin towers Orlando power station. We will then proceed in the open-air lift up the 100m tall West cooling tower, and onto the viewing platform. On the viewing platform, we can get an uninterrupted, "bird’s eye" view of the sights and sounds of Soweto.

12h00 – We visit the Walter Sisulu Square, explore the Kliptown Museum where you will learn about the history in the area and the Freedom Charter signed in 1955 which now stands as the basis of our Constitution.
13h00 – The trip continues to the neighbouring suburb of Orlando West and The Hector Pieterson Museum and Memorial. Spend time wondering through the Museum, learning about the student uprising. Visit the fascinating museum which is a state of the art multi media center depicting scenes that led to the uprising of 1976 and the eventual transition to Democracy in South Africa. This is a very informative and moving experience not to be missed.
14h30 - The tour Bus will drive through Vilakazi Street, which is the only street in the World where two Noble Prize Winners lived: Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.
15h00 – Drive to Roots Restaurant for lunch. A highlight of a visit to Soweto is a delicious lunch at this famous restaurant loved by tourists and locals alike, offering typical “township soul food”, and artworks from every township in South Africa.
